Ribonuclease A is an endoribonuclease that specifically degrades single stranded RNA at C and U residues. The enzyme cleaves the phosphodiester bond between the 5'-ribose on the nucleoside and the phosphate groups on the adjacent pyrimidine 3'-ribose. The resulting 2'3'-cyclic phosphoric acid can be hydrolyzed to the corresponding 3'-nucleoside phosphate. The product is free from internal and external deoxyribonuclease contamination and protease contamination.
